What is orthopedic footwear?
Orthopedic shoes are shoes that are specifically designed to support or accommodate the mechanics and structure of the foot, ankle and leg and they have a number of medically beneficial features and functions that separate them from everyday footwear.
What is a rockered shoe and do we carry them?
Rockered shoes have an outer surface curved in the front, and a flat middle section. A curve in the rear section is intended to decrease pressure on heel strike, and reduce the need for ankle motion. We have a wide range of work and casual rockered footwear.
Do we fit custom orthotics?
Yes. Sole to Soul has a fully qualified and accredited C Ped Tech and member of the Canadian Pedorthics association on staff Monday through Thursday between 10-5.
Do we fit Diabetic footwear?
Yes. Sole to Soul has several members of its staff experienced in fitting Diabetic feet as well as the largest selection of diabetic appropriate footwear in the City of Calgary.
Do we do modifications for footwear?
Yes. We modify footwear for most orthopedic requirements and foot related ailments. We have an experienced Tech on staff that can modify to suit your needs.
Do we carry wide sizes?
Yes. Sole to Soul carries the largest selection of wide footwear in Calgary. We also carry sizes up to 16 US men’s and 11 US women’s in some styles.
How much do orthopedic/diabetic shoes cost?
Orthopedic shoes typically range from $140 to $220. Diabetic shoes typically range from $175 to $280. Orthopedic/Diabetic shoes require higher quality materials and manufacturing, as well as coming in a variety of widths and depths.
I have a WCB or AADL prescription. When and where should I come in?
Senior staff are available to fit for WCB claims on Monday Through Saturday, excluding holidays, between 10am to 6pm. AADL fittings are available on Monday through Thursday between 10am to 5pm. WCB and AADL fittings are only available at our North Hill Center location. No appointment is necessary, but please allow at least 30-60 minutes for fittings.
Can we provide footwear for insurance claims and do we direct bill?
Sole to Soul Footwear can provide stock orthopedic footwear for insurance claims, however as each insurance company and the coverage it provides is different, we ask that you familiarize yourself with the details of your plans coverage. Please have a copy of your coverage and your prescription.
Be aware that orthopedic footwear has specific requirements and features that make it different from non-orthopedic footwear both in appearance and functionality. Features common to orthopedic footwear include, but are not limited to; variable widths, removable insole, broad sole of adequate density.
We can provide, upon request, an orthopedic shoe certificate and detailed receipt of purchase for orthopedic shoes that meet the criteria. We do not direct bill insurance companies or health plans.
